Travel Journal: Last day in Australia - Good Bye Sydney !

We finished our last day today - just exploring and soaking Sydney in 🦘🐨🇦🇺

It’s a feeling of major accomplishment tinged with sadness once a trip you have dreamed of all of your life is done… It’s also exciting to think that it also means it’s time to start on planning the next one - and you can bet I’ll be working on next years ideas on the flight home !

This was the longest, furthest and hardest we have ever traveled and we are definitely feeling ready to get home for the holidays and see loved ones and our fur babies - and oh yeah maybe rest a little too…

To say this trip was life changing and a massive reset is an understatement ♥️

Overall Sydney is just an amazing city with so much to explore and lots of beautiful nature within the city, like their free botanical gardens we saw today, the Chinese Friendship Garden, and the many harbors and beach walks. There’s endless tasty food options and it was a perfect spot to go get us our souvenir tattoos for this trip- one of our favorite souvenirs to get when we can. 

Obviously the crown jewel of Sydney is The Sydney Opera House. Its architecture is like no other and its building tested the limits of engineering, construction and design.

Designed by the Danish architect Jørn Utzon, and almost not completed due to politics and several other issues during its  construction, it stands now as an Australian icon and is synonymous with Sydney. 

We did the tour inside the day we arrived  and you honestly never feel like you can truly capture its essence in photos. We had a fantastic tour guide and even got to see some rehearsals happening for a Christmas show! We touched the famous tiles (that are literally made to shimmer in the sun and they so do) and we just sat and took in the atmosphere if being on Sydney Harbor. There is no bad view of the harbor of opera house and is all a big hustling, bustling magical mix of different cultures, food and sounds. 

We truly loved our time in Australia and have so much love and appreciation for the wonderful and welcoming locals, their rich culture and history, phenomenal food offerings and absolutely wild natural surroundings and unique wildlife 🐨🦘🐨🦘

The Land Down Under is by no means small and it’s almost overwhelming how much it has to offer but don’t let it intimidate you- they have so many easy transportation options and tours to help you. We can not recommend this as a travel destination enough ! Though we weren’t there as long - we feel just the same about New Zealand 🇳🇿 

It was the most beautiful place we have seen and there’s so much to see and do. We will absolutely return to Australia and New Zealand some day - we have much more to explore…for now we rest up for over 18 hours of travel time to get back HOME.

 06/20/2025 We enjoyed a nice chill last day in a rainy Tacoma- taking in sites, enjoying time with family and shopping🌧️ This city has been a great base for us to stay to easily get to all the adventures we wanted to. Tacoma is situated between Seattle and both national parks and offers its own mix of attractions such as museums, waterfront dining, and parks. Our favorite has definitely been Point Defiance Park and Owens Beach to take in sunsets and watch wildlife 🦭 We also found some unique breweries and some delicious donuts along with cute little shops in old town. Only 30 minutes from Tacoma we shopped The Outlet Collection Seattle this week too, and stocked up on super discounted outdoor gear from some of our favorites like Columbia and Eddie Bauer !  This trip was such a wonderful reset for us and we are ready to get back to it. Travel Journal: Washington Day 5, More Seattle and Kayaking the Puget Sound !

 06/19/2024 We spent a lovely morning today exploring the Alki Beach area of Seattle before we did a fantastic kayak adventure in the Puget Sound 🐋🦭 Lincoln Park was some beautiful walking and led us to one of a few troll statue art installations (spread throughout the PNW) made completely out of recycled materials. Alki Beach has a nice laid back vibe and lots of shopping and dining 🦀 Washington’s Puget Sound, is a huge estuary connected to the Pacific Ocean -known for its rich biodiversity and stunning views of the surrounding nature and diverse wildlife. Puget is home to various fish, seabirds, and marine mammals, including the orca whale.  We have come to love doing kayak tours in many destinations we visit, and find it’s a fantastic way to get right into the local nature and see some wildlife! Travel Journal: New Orleans- The Big Easy & Biloxi, Mississippi

 November of 2020  I have had a lifelong obsession with seeing New Orleans. I even had a mardi-gras theme room for a while as a kid- I guess seeing it in travel books I just fell in love with the architecture and always wanted to try the food !  Finally in 2020 we made it happen and spent a good almost 2 weeks in the “Big Easy”.  We all know 2020 was a crazy year to say the least… We had originally planned to go to New Orleans in May of 2020 and well, things obviously had to be cancelled. By November we had an offer from Expedia to re-schedule since Covid numbers were lower in Louisiana and after much thought and arranging plans we decided to go for it. We followed all safety measures and of course quarantined and had to be tested as soon as we got home. It was a very strange time to travel, that is for sure..
